One life isn’t enough.........
04.15.08 (10:07 pm)   [edit]

Up there I view myself roaming about clouds,

Betting on self for racing with birds.

All the mighty and small,

I see as equal, as pictures roll.

One life isn’t enough, dear...

There’s so much to do before the world see my rear!

Down there I view myself dipping deep and deep,

I touch; I feel those slimy cute fish,

Red and blue and green,

Making rainbows with each bubble they throw.

One life isn’t enough, dear...

There’s so much to do before the world see my rear!

Walking through knee length grasses,

Breeze whispers into my ears, their dreams.

I close my eyes gently,

And feel the voice of silence.

One life isn’t enough, dear...

There’s so much to do before the world see my rear!

I see my parents walk through the street,

Head held high, no lines on forehead.

Tears of happiness rolling down their cheeks,

Of living their life and got salvation in me.

One life isn’t enough, dear...

There’s so much to do before the world see my rear!

Fingers intermingled, pace too slow to reach,

Moonlight sparkling the waves as they kiss our feet.

I met myself inside out,

Wishing each moment to stand still.

One life isn’t enough, dear...

There’s so much to do before the world see my rear!

I hear children cry, mothers scream,

“Raise us up; give us a hug of love,”

All they need is a tiny portion of my life,

But here I am to give you my whole.

One life isn’t enough, dear...

There’s so much to do before the world see my rear!

Creative Education
04.06.08 (10:36 pm)   [edit]
Teachers should use controversial subject matter as a stimulus to thinking, not shy away from them. A school board in Kentucky a few years ago stated that certain subject matters (such as evolution, sexual education, and AIDS) should be kept out of the classroom because they are too "upsetting" to the students. On the contrary, I think that if students do not move a bit out of their comfort zone at least once a week, they are not receiving a good education. Education is about challenging one's ideas and opening them up to scrutiny. A student's ideas may or may not withstand such scrutiny, but either way the student will benefit from the challenge.

Good Bad Music
04.06.08 (10:23 pm)   [edit]

This week, American Idol—a show that already takes itself very seriously—takes it even more seriously with Idol Gives Back.  The theme is about what inspires you.  Well, this is VFTW.  What inspires VFTW is the tuneless, the tasteless, and the terrible: bad music.  And I mean bad in the best possible way.

There is an outrageous, kitschy appeal in bad music.  Many people who visit VFTW don’t understand this, so it’s time to bridge the gap and open some minds.  It doesn’t have to be pretentious.  It doesn’t even have to be in tune to be entertaining.

FDA OKs New Rotavirus Vaccine
04.05.08 (4:17 am)   [edit]
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a second oral vaccine for the prevention of rotavirus, an

The Rotarix vaccine is a liquid and given in a two-dose series to infants from 6 to 24 weeks of age.

Rotavirus causes an estimated 2.7 million cases of gastroenteritis in U.S. children each year -- and about 55,000 to 70,000 of those children require hospitalization. Between 20 and 60 deaths are attributed to the infection. Without vaccination, nearly every child in the United States would likely be infected at least once with rotavirus by age 5, the FDA said in its late-Thursday announcement infection that causes vomiting and diarrhea in infants and children.

Australia to begin carbon capture
04.02.08 (12:47 am)   [edit]

Australia's first underground carbon storage facility has opened in the southern state of Victoria.

The geo-sequestration plant, the only one in the Southern hemisphere, will capture CO2 from a power station and store it 2km below the surface.

Researchers believe the pilot scheme will help Australia make deep cuts to its greenhouse gas emissions.

Environmentalists, though, are not convinced that the technology is appropriate.

need of computer
03.29.08 (2:26 am)   [edit]

The relatively short time needed to complete the simulation, however, make it feasible for this type of work to be used by doctors treating actual patients. As scientific computing develops even faster algorithms for distributed computing, such advances may become commonplace.

The results of this research also indicate that scientific computing has a substantial impact on society. For one, the correctness of these algorithms is not yet guaranteed, and when computing systems are used to may life and death decisions, then it is necessary to consider the implication of the failures of these systems. In addition, will medical users get an advantage in time allocations for the high performance grid computers needed for this type of work? What if the information is leaked and medical privacy is compromised?

As computers become more powerful and as scientific computing concepts and simulations become more useful, these and other hard questions will need to be answered. However, advances such as this show how beneficial scientific computing advances may be to humanity.

Turn out the lights at Earth Hour Saturday
03.29.08 (1:49 am)   [edit]

Earth Hour is going global Saturday, when we're all supposed to turn off the lights (and, come on people, the TVs, stereos and computers, too) for a mere hour from 8 to 9 p.m. to raise awareness of climate change and promote energy conservation.

During last year's inaugural in Sydney, 2.2 million people turned off their lights, reducing carbon emissions by the equivalent of taking 48,000 cars off the road

blogvertise
03.29.08 (1:38 am)   [edit]

BlogVertise pays bloggers to review websites and post their review on their blog. Simple, right? I think so. I also like the idea of being shown new things on the internet and being able to talk about them

You are assigned tasks that you can accept or deny. These tasks involve going to a website, taking a look around, and writing a review about that site on your blog. Each task may have more specific instructions, but that is the over-all “gist” of the blogvertise system. Review posts for blogvertise need to have at least 75 words and must include at least 3 links back to the reviewed site.

Paid to Review is an affiliation program which I like, because earnings from this program is big. Blogsvertise is one of this program example. Blogsvertise offer job to review blog or website from advertiser, the job will be delivered to our email which we use to sign up which contai details of that website or blog, and commission that we will receive for that job. We just accept the job (I suggest to accept given job because will improve our reputation which is finally will increase level of salary), then publish the review in our blog or website and fill in our url for that review in the submit form. Later, result of review will be checking by Blogsvertise team, if fulfilling criterion hence will approve, when there is fault they will ask to repair it.

water
03.27.08 (11:58 pm)   [edit]

Drinking water is so important for good health. When you were a kid in school, you learned that each molecule of water is made up of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. You may also have learned that it was great fun to fill up your squirt guns with water, at least until the principal caught you. What you may not have learned, however, was how much water you needed in order to be a healthy human being.

Your body is estimated to be about 60 to 70 percent water. Blood is mostly water, and your muscles, lungs, and brain all contain a lot of water. Your body needs water to regulate body temperature and to provide the means for nutrients to travel to all your organs. Water also transports oxygen to your cells, removes waste, and protects your joints and organs.

Good Communicaton
03.26.08 (10:45 pm)   [edit]

You may think that you know what your patients heard when you spoke to them, but in many cases you are only partially correct. Sometimes in healthcare, communication is like the childhood game of passing a message from one person to another by whispering in a person’s ear. I hope that you remember that game. What may have started out as “Amos has a green shirt on” could end up by the seventh or eighth person as “A mouse had a spleen out.” Communication is extremely important in healthcare. Communicating poorly can have serious consequences.

For instance, suppose you have described to a patient that he/she should take their medication for hypothyroidism one hour before breakfast in the morning (some physicians recommend a half hour) and have described the consequences of frequently missing their pill.

A Patient's Guide to Dupuytren's Contracture

Dupuytren's contracture is a fairly common disorder of the fingers. It most often affects the ring or little finger, sometimes both, and often in both hands. Although the exact cause is unknown, it occurs most often in middle-aged, white men and is genetic in nature, meaning it runs in families. This condition is seven times more common in men than women. It is more common in men of Scandinavian, Irish, or Eastern European ancestry. Interestingly, the spread of the disease seems to follow the same pattern as the spread of Viking culture in ancient times. The disorder may occur suddenly but more commonly progresses slowly over a period of years. The disease usually doesn't cause symptoms until after the age of 40.

No one knows exactly what causes Dupuytren's contracture. The condition is rare in young people but becomes more common with age. When it appears at an early age, it usually progresses rapidly and is often very severe. The condition tends to progress more quickly in men than in women.
